Why these sore throat remedies are so much more than a cough drop...
Stacey Littlefield has more than 20 years of experience in the natural foods/medicine industry.
A Master Herbalist who received her title upon completion of her Masters of Science in Herbal Medicine, you can be sure she’s encountered her fair share of sore throats.
One of the most popular sore throat remedies is the cough drop.
Often presented as a small, brightly colored crystalline tablet, cough drops are popular sore throat remedies because they resemble and taste like a piece of candy.
Unfortunately, there are plenty of reasons to think they’re also about as good for you as candy...
Research has shown us that how food looks deeply affects our experience of how it tastes.
Similarly, If cough drop claims to be “cherry-flavored,” we will expect that drop’s color to be a bright, maraschino red.
However, the coloring of the cough drop isn’t achieved from the flavor, it’s often achieved by inclusion of artificial coloring.
While food dyes may make our experience of a food more appealing, they are not good for our bodies, especially as children. This excerpt is from news-medical.net
“Research has also associated food dyes with problems in children including allergies, hyperactivity, learning impairment, irritability and aggressiveness.”

As it turns out, it’s not just the color of cough drops that is often artificial… it’s also the flavor.
Artificial flavorings aren’t necessarily bad for you. Yes, they are chemical additives that you’re putting in your body, but in theory these chemical compounds should be the same ones found in natural flavors, just from a different source.
The real problem with artificial flavors? The accompanying sugar.
It’s no coincidence that most foods that contain artificial flavors are foods often high in sugar, and cough drops are no different.
Sugar is used to enhance the flavor we’re expecting to experience… but rarely is it pure, unrefined sugar. Often it’s from highly processed sources such as glucose syrup and high fructose corn syrup.
These sources of sugar can increase your risk of obesity, high blood sugar, and poor dental health.
We’re not entirely sure.
We know that sucking on a cough drop creates more saliva, which in turn helps lubricate our throat. This may provide some temporary relief.
However, this could be achieved by sucking on a piece of candy… the scope of research on the medical benefits of cough drops beyond this general lubrication is limited.
Stacey knew that people deserved better throat relief than what generic, additive-filled cough drops could offer.
Stacey and the team at Redd Remedies have come up with a selection of three great-tasting, non-GMO, vegetarian Throat Drops!
We can now ditch the glorified candy in favor of these effective, great-tasting, all-natural sore throat remedies.
There wouldn’t be any point to adding Throat Drops to the market if they didn’t address the problems listed above. Luckily for us, Stacey is a Master Herbalist, and she made short work of these issues.
Stacey’s formulated blend of 5 pure essential oils has been created to bring relief to your irritated throat. We call it the Essential Oil Cooling Blend. It supports clear and open airways and provides a cooling, soothing sensation to your throat.
The pure essential oils are: eucalyptus, rosemary, camphor, spike lavender, and pine.
So, why do these essential oils offer a better cooling effect than the menthol in a cough drop?
Most cough drops offer 2mg - 5mg of menthol per dose. However, this menthol is an isolate. This means that the menthol has been broken apart from its original compound using chemical solvents.
What makes our remedy far more effective is that our essential oils each naturally contain menthol… and they also contain hundreds of beneficial nutrients!
This means cooling menthol experience from our Throat Drops doesn’t just bring your throat a soothing sensation, it also brings antibacterial and antimicrobial activity, benefits isolated menthol would never be able to bring.
With just a dash of added menthol, the natural constituents of these essential oils offer a far more balanced and pleasant experience than your regular cough drop!
Given our whole-body approach to medicine Stacey knew that it wouldn’t be enough to simply address sore throats. We had to address the surrounding bodily systems and support those too.
In the case of a sore throat, this would be the respiratory system.
Thanks to Stacey’s selection of hand-picked herbs, our throat drops also help cultivate optimal respiratory system function. These herbs include:
Try Throat Drops for effective, cooling throat relief that’s so much more than a cough drop!
